American rock and roll master Tom Petty put together his first band in high school and by 1974 left his native Florida behind for the lure of L.A. Renaming his band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the L.A. lineup included original members Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell, Ron Blair and Stan Lynch. The band released "American Girl," "Refugee" and the incredible "Damn the Torpedoes" and in no time found themselves in the bright lights of the arena stage. Replacing Blair with Howie Epstein in 1982, the band continued to record top albums, including "Long After Dark." Petty kept busy in the late 80's and early 90's with solo gigs and ensemble work and was part of the Touring Wilburys. His fans are legion and reverent....more
