Renaming his band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the L.A. lineup included original members Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell, Ron Blair and Stan Lynch. The band released "American Girl," "Refugee" and the incredible "Damn the Torpedoes" and in no time found themselves in the bright lights of the arena stage. Replacing Blair with Howie Epstein in 1982, the band continued to record top albums, including "Long After Dark." Petty kept busy through the next three decades with solo gigs and ensemble work, including his role in the venerable Traveling Wilburys. His fans are legion and reverent....more
