Few bands can claim perfection in paucity like Derek and the Dominos. With only two real albums to its credit, the studio effort Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs and a live compilation, In Concert, the band was Eric Clapton's 1970 musical dalliance with other members of Delaney and Bonnie that included Duane Allman, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. Layla was released in November, 1970 and although the band tried to get another album together in mid-1971, that effort failed, and Clapton's withdrawal to deal with his drug problem and Allman's tragic death in October of that year rang the band's death knell. A remix of 1970's live performances came out in '73, and the band and album Layla are remembered and hailed as some of Clapton's most exquisite artistic ventures....more

    Is there any more exciting concept in rock ‘n’ roll than the supergroup? Put together four or five rock stars at the top of their game and just see what happens. It seems like England invented the idea in the ’60s with groups like Cream and Blind Faith. Eric Clapton just happened to be in both of these groups. (read more)
